5th Street Market District is Lively With Four New Eateries

Plus, the farmers market relocation, a second brewery tasting room and rooftop tacos

5th street market Gordon Hotel

5th Street Market construction is now complete and new tenants are in the queue. The expansion bodes well for local farm to table food and drink.

The adjacent boutique Gordon Hotel, developed by Eugene-based real estate developer Obie Companies, recently opened its doors with much-needed travel and residential accommodations. Portland’s Urban Restaurant Group collaborated with the launch of three unique eat and drink spots.

Carlita’s Rooftop on the 7th floor gives diners the pleasure of shareable Mexican small plates with locally sourced ingredients, big Northwest flavors and Eugene skyline views. Exotic margaritas and an extensive list of tequila and whiskey options are prominent. On the first floor, The Gordon Tavern features “American Comfort food with a Northwest flair.” Sharable appetizers, crisp fried chicken, homemade chicken pot pie, and an array of craft beers and cocktails are the stars.

Not to be outdone by tacos and comfort food, 86’ed is bringing a bygone-era speakeasy vibe to the area featuring handcrafted cocktails, prohibition-era spirits, and food pairings. Reservations and a mystery password will be required for entry through a hidden door.

Magpie Coffeeshop will debut this spring in the new Market Alley as the latest addition to Marché Restaurant Group’s portfolio of farm to table eateries. Set in a compact airy space with soaring ceilings and a roll-up garage door, the cafe will boast buttery biscuits, big-bowl salads, savory hand-pies, cinnamon rolls and more from a kitchen team eager to step out with their much-loved favorites.

The Americana-style cafe will more than satisfy with a classic rotating diner-style pie case beaming with cream pies and seasonal classics.

In November 2020 Alesong Brewing and Blending became the new occupants in the space previously occupied by the Sweet Cheeks Winery tasting room at the Public Market. Alesong on 5th opened as the brewery’s second tasting location.

In the wake of relaxed COVID-19 restrictions in Lane County, Alesong extended its operation from bottle sales only to include tasting hours from 12 PM to 8 PM. Brewery patio members enjoy special perks from 12pm-8pm Sun-Thurs, and 12pm-10pm Fri-Sat. Their new downtown location is pouring a variety of signature barrel-aged beers on tap paired with a few noshing plates.

Lane County Farmers Market continues in the 2022 market season a few blocks north of its Park Blocks in the 5th Street Market neighborhood while construction wraps up on the new Farmers Market Plaza, located at Oak and 8th streets. Eventually, the renovated location will allow the farmers market to more than double its space from the current 65 vendors to sell and market their products. The new covered structure allows for shopping under cover during inclement weather events and a conjoined indoor-outdoor event space.
