Our winter ritual is here. That time of year when we bring our readers a list of Oregon finalists in the San Francisco-based Good Food Awards competition. Careening from yearly repeat winners in the charcuterie and chocolate categories to spicy jams and nutty concoctions for snacking and spoon licking, the list of finalists this year is flush with small artisanal producers across Oregon.
After two years consumed with illness and closures, the need to support small local businesses is more urgent than ever. The Good Food Awards recognizes the food producers at the forefront of creating a “tasty, authentic and responsible food system”. Artisans and their more than 2,000 handcrafted products are subjected to blind tasting and vetted according to strict category criteria for authenticity, sustainability and social responsibility.
