Online ordering has become a survival strategy for restaurants and diners alike. As of late last year Governor Brown’s signature on Senate Bill 1801 gave the food industry a new lifeline allowing alcohol sales, including cocktails, be sold off-premises. It’s a brand new year and even though we’re still stuck at home, the restaurants are hard at work keeping customers fed and staff employed as much as possible.
Here are a few establishments that have quickly adapted and are ready for customers to add “drinks” to their food orders.
Noble Rot Wine Bar
Owners Kimberly Bernosky and Courtney Storrs have found good success with their wine-driven menu featuring ingredients from their extensive rooftop garden. With the passing of the new OLCC regulations, wine, beer and cocktail kits can now be included with customers’ food takeout, curbside pickup and delivery orders.
From Moscow Mule kits to a fruity concoction with a NSFW name, Noble Rot offers cocktails for $12-$29. Their reputation for outstanding wine pairings carries over on the to-go menu with offerings from Grochau Cellars, Helioterra (yes, you can have Cuveé with your burger!), and Abacela’s Albarino.
Friday Night Hot Burgers and sides available for pick up and delivery. This month only order up their Inauguration Day Meal Kit for curbside pick up (menu based on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ favorite foods). Noble Rot will donate $10 from each order to volunteer-driven Detrash Portland.
Hours: Friday 4-7pm
Located in NE Portland, Blank Slate cocktail bar is Kierre Van de Veere and Michael Irikawa’s popular Montavilla neighborhood watering hole. It has all the cocktails and style a local can ask for. Even though Blank Slate is currently closed for dine-in services, they are offering excellent beer, wine and cocktail kit options starting January 14th. Just walk in, place an order, and head out with bottled libations in hand. All food options are available for in-person pick-up.
Hours: Thursday and Friday 4-7pm; Saturday 12-3pm
Since 1879, Huber’s has been slinging cocktails and delicious eats in downtown Portland for locals and tourists alike. This classic upscale eatery, in business since the 1870’s, has been the go-to spot for turkey dinners, Angus beef, seafood and pasta dishes. Now, all that comes with cocktails in take-home containers, including the notable Sazeracs, Mimosas, Cosmopolitans, and a variety of vodka-based mixes.
Outdoor dining is available but with only five tables, diners would be wise to reserve ahead.
Hours: Monday-Saturday 11:30am-10pm; Sunday 4-10pm
As the bar and restaurant industry adjusts to the new cocktails to-go approval, more eateries will jump in. Next time you order out check their online menu. You’ll be contributing to the bottom line of your favorite dining spot and helping ensure they’re still open when social distancing is in the rear view mirror.
