University of Oregon students have a sweet life thanks to co-owners Cheryl and Catherine Reinhart. Situated a few short blocks from campus, Sweet Life Petite is the boutique second location of the sisters’ longtime mothership, Sweet Life Patisserie, on Monroe St. Dessert hounds are greeted daily by an impressive display of seasonal, scratch-made sugary cakes, tarts, pies, mini-sweets, and savories, such as quiche. Vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options are staples on the menu and their house-made granola, pastel marshmallows, chocolates and teas are popular grab-and-go treats.
The Reinhart sisters began their business creating custom cakes and their Facebook album proves the creativity of their customers and bakers that has lasted more than 20 years. Whimsical sculptural designs are edible fantasies for every kid at heart.
Sustainability is key to the bakery’s operation. They keep their footprint low by sourcing from local partners, including Mountain Rose Herbs, Lochmead Dairy, and Groundwork Organics. Everything sold in the shop is 100% rBGH-free, trans-fat and hydrogenated-fat-free.

In 2010, what began as a gift to loved ones became a journey of sel and soul. Jody Van Buskirk started with a small herb garden, blending her first sel extraordinaire: sun-dried tomato. When a close friend, Laine Alexander, returned to Southern Oregon, they called in the unicorn and began working their magic. They love salt. And they’ve searched the world over for the very best salt. It happens to be grey and moist and comes from a French village along the Atlantic Ocean, called Guerande, where it’s hand-harvested from nutrient and mineral rich clay soil in a process called “winning,” from a pond called Salinity. Naturally.
Now, Salinity Salts’ first three blends, Rosemary-Garlic, Chipotle and Hot (now !Fire!), have grown to seventeen in just six years.
Since 2012, to make the very best salt they can from the very depths of their soul, Salinity Salts has involved an infusion of family: Jody and Laine, their husbands, children, cousins, and even in-laws. All part of a collective journey on a farm in Southern Oregon. All a part of nature. Salt of the earth, you might say.
And all towards one end: Finishing Salts.
Find a selection of our salts at retail locations around Oregon: Ashland Co-op, MaMosa’s, Gooseberries, Harry and David Country Store, and Rogue Creamery.
