Wine Educational Tasting Series
Start your year fresh with a wine education series at Durant Vineyards. Designed for those newer to the world of wine (but can be enjoyed by wine veterans as well), we are offering four unique classes reviewing the basics of wine tasting, differences amongst varietals at Durant and the Willamette Valley as a whole, vineyard best practices and the process of making wine. This class will be curated and hosted by our very own wine educator Paul Mentzer.
Come to class ready to learn first hand what makes Durant Vineyards one of the premier winemakers in the Willamette Valley, all while sipping some of the greatest wines we have to offer. You will leave these classes confident and knowledgeable about the world-class wines this area has come to be known for.
Wine 104: Vineyard Basics – 5/22/2021
In the final class of our four-part series, you will learn the ins and outs of viticulture – the growth and production of grapes. Enjoy an intimate viewpoint of viticulture through a tasting and stroll through our ‘bird blocks’, getting a first-hand look at vines, vineyard practices, and how we manage high-quality production and proper yield through fruit drop, canopy management, row orientation, and spacing, cover crop usage, nutritional supplementation and more. We will discuss the grape growth cycle, starting at bud break, continuing to fruit set, veraison, and eventually ending at harvesting at each clone’s unique peak readiness. This class will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared to be exposed to the elements!
