Travel and Leisure writes, “This [Portland Farmer’s Market] Saturday hot spot is the epicenter for Oregonian locavores…The regional spring and summer produce here includes organic raspberries and huckleberries; fresh-caught Dungeness crab; soft sheep’s-milk cheeses; handmade pappardelle noodles; and Asian greens like bok choy, yu choy, and gilan (Chinese broccoli).”Get ready for Spring! The opening of the Portland Saturday Farmers Market has arrived. With access to lots of fresh, locally grown produce, locally raised meat and fresh cheeses, local wines, homemade ice cream sandwiches and more, Portland is the home of many terrific farmers markets. Travel and Leisure has listed Portland’s expansive Saturday Market as one of America’s 10 Best Farmer’s Markets.

With spring on the horizon, the Portland Farmers Markets are coming back for the season. This year, the popular Saturday market opens March 19, with many of the smaller neighborhood markets opening in May and June. In addition to having a wide array of great local products, the Saturday market at PSU also has some great local food carts, where you can get delicious, affordable eats to fuel your shopping.

For more information on Portland’s bustling market scene, visit their site. In addition to market hours and vendors, they even have a product search – so you can look for specific produce, and be armed with the info you need to find it and check it off your list for this week’s meals. Don’t forget to bring your reusable bags!
